Hi everybody!

Here are the brief results from our WB "Spring Nationals" at Gary’s Picnic Yanks event at Shakey, on 23rd – 25th May, with a full writeup and results to follow as soon as we can!

The Wild Bunch had 18 teams participating this weekend, as we started off our 20th Anniversary running of the Wild Bunch Series. Saturday was dry though cloudy, Sunday was a bit wet for the morning, though there was a full afternoon of track time, and Monday was dry and we completed all 4 rounds of racing! The winners were:

1st Place: Keith Crampton in “Soul Town Shaker” .0695 (Yes Keith! You did win even with that PB!)
2nd Place: Tom Larman in “The Ferret” .0723 (welcome back Tom!)
3rd Place: Bob Morgan in “B-Sting” .0725 (welcome back to driving Bob!)
4th Place: Gina Rumble in “Tiki Munki” .0768 (welcome back to driving Gina!)

NB. There was 1/1000th of a second in it over 4 rounds between 2nd and 3rd places!!!

Many thanks to Bob of Springbridge Direct Ltd for posting the Prize Fund of £75 for the winner of the event, and £25 for Runner-up. And many thanks to our anonymous donor for posting another prize fund.

Here are the Spot Prizes that were awarded:-

Best Reaction (on Race-day): Tom Larman in “The Ferret” .092
Closest to Dial-in (on Race-day): Darryl Howells in “Chemical Reaction” .001 off
Best Altered: Alan Loten & Steve Williams “Paranoia”
Best Slingshot: Russ Heaven in “Tight Fit”
Best Burnout: Rob & Pete Brown in “Wrathchild”
Best Appearing Team: Team “B-Sting”

Some highlights of the weekend include a big field of Wild Bunch, good weather, loads of track time,
a couple of newcomers, a couple of improved performances after struggles, a number of PB’s set by various drivers and a great show by all the Bunch! Of all the teams attending the event, there were 9 teams who ran PB’s and some did it more than once:

The full field included:

• Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II” (great consistent performance with the ‘spare engine’)
• Bob Morgan in “B-Sting” (PB for Bob in the car: 10.262/130.06)
• Keith Crampton in “Soul Town Shaker” (PB: 10.892)
• Gina Durrant in “Tiki Munki” (and first event for youngest Wild Buncher, Elsie-May, 4 months old! Welcome!)
• Pete & Rob Brown in “Wrathchild” (PB Pete: 11.690/113.92 and PB Rob: 11.34/114.57) (I think!!!)
• Mick Hillier in “Texas Ranger” (PB: 9.685/132.67) (great new crew shirts!)
• Jason Cull & Martin White in “Perfect Pete” (PB: 10.506) (nice wheelies too!)
• Tom Larman in “The Ferret” (Tom & Craig loved being back!! And a PB at Shakey 10.422)
• Phil James in “Rampage” (commiserations on the diff breakage! Best of luck with the rebuild!)
• Russ Heaven in “Tight Fit” (he made it! Promising run at the end too!)
• Darryl Howells in “Chemical Reaction” (PB: 8.821) (loads of 8’s!)
• Alan Loten in “Paranoia” (great to see the team back on form!)
• Dave Southworth in “Daddy Cool” (great runs to start and finish the event!)
• Mike Couch in “Chequered Past” (PB: 9.703) (great new crew shirts and helmet!)
• Steve Field in “Black Pig Too” (PB: 9.509/134.97) (great to see the car running well!)
• Andy Stones in the little yellow slingshot (PB: 12.074/106.91) (Wild Bunch debut – welcome Andy and Cathrine!)
• Jim Tanner in “Shindigger” (Wild Bunch debut – welcome Jim and Eddie!) (was 1st after Round 1!)
• Matt Fuller in “Oblivion” (great to see the team running a string of low 10’s!)

(Please shout out if I’ve missed your PB! And I will add to the full report!)

A big welcome to 2 new teams – Andy and Cathrine with the Kawasaki powered slingshot – this was Andy’s debut for any drag race, and he ran brilliantly, improving from 17’s to 12’s during the weekend. Both he and wife Cathrine took to racing like ducks to water! Well done and welcome; also the WB debut for Jim Tanner in his “Shindigger”, getting a handle on the car and running .012 off Dial in his first ever round of competition! Well done and welcome to him and crew Eddie. They all thoroughly enjoyed their first weekend’s competition with the Bunch!

It was a great event, where we were lucky to get all 4 rounds completed! Many thanks to all at Shakey for their hard work once again, well done to all! Well done to all the Wild Bunch teams on more great performances! We look forward to another big field next event at our ‘Nostalgia Nationals’ event at Shakey on 20th & 21st June. Hope to see you there!

Full report posted as soon as we can!
