Hi everyone

Here are the brief results from the ‘Open Sports Nationals’ at Shakey this weekend 29th – 31st August, with a full writeup and results to follow as soon as we can!

The Wild Bunch had a total of 9 teams competing at the event:

Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II” (testing a new bigger fuel pump)
Keith Crampton in “Soul Town Shaker” (very near to a PB)
Terry Clifford in “Ratcatcher Resurrection” (had hairy launches & gear problem though hopefully cured!)
Dick Sharp in “Dorset Horn” (some nice breakouts!)
Phil James in “Rampage” (more consistency in qualifying)
Darryl Howells in “Chemical Reaction” (testing some new parts)
Alan Loten in “Paranoia” (brand new slicks worked well)
Sarah Howells in “Black Pig Too” (Steve installed new gears which worked well)
Dan Sharp in “Little Big Horn” (had some hairy launches!)

Saturday’s weather was pretty good overall and we got the full 3 qualifiers in as scheduled. The officials started on and got two thirds of the way through the fourth cycle that day. Sunday dawned a bit better than expected and we got our 4th qualifier completed. The officials started on the next cycle for everyone but there was a bit of rain, and intermittent running, though more heavier rain came along around 12:20, and with no let up, that was it for the day at around 2pm. Unfortunately, there was then heavy rain in the early hours of Monday, which persisted throughout the morning, and although very light by about 11am, the forecast predicted more, so the officials were forced to call an end to the event. Such a shame, as there were due to be a Bye and 4 great races in the first round and an exciting day of close eliminations!

Here are the Spot Prizes that were awarded at the weekend:-

#1 Qualifier: Phil James in “Rampage” .012 off
Best Reaction: Phil James in “Rampage” .085
Best Burnout: Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II”
Best Appearing Car: Dan Sharp & Scott Chilcott “Little Big Horn”

Highlights of the weekend included: 4 qualifiers and a great group of cars and racers!

PB’s:
Sarah Howells in “Black Pig Too” 157.65mph

Only qualifying points were awarded for the APIRA Series round and this was concluded at this event, and is subject to official ratification. Many Congratulations to Darryl Howells, who has won, his first ever win in this Series! And congrats to Phil James in Runner-up position, his first ever Series trophy!

The 2015 Roy Wilding Nostalgia Race Cars Series was also wrapped up at this event. Big Congratulations to Keith Crampton who has won this Series! And congrats to Dick Sharp who finished in 2nd place, Team B-Sting in 3rd and Tom Larman who finished 4th. Well done all!

It was a good event apart from curtailed qualifying and not being able to run any eliminations Monday. Many thanks to all the Shakespeare County marshals and officials, track crew and organisers for all their hard work over the weekend! Special thanks to Mark Coulsell who braved broken ribs to cycle up and down the pits all weekend doing pit running. Thanks also to Linda Williams for her pit callouts.

Really looking forward to an exciting finale at the ‘National Finals’ at Santa Pod in just under 3 weeks’ time! It’s all gonna come down to the wire again!

Full report posted as soon as we can! Plus the news on the points standings!
