Hi everybody!

Here are the brief results from our WB "Spring Shootout" at the ‘Late Spring Madness RWYB’ event at Shakey, on 14th & 15th May, with a full writeup and results to follow as soon as we can!

The Wild Bunch had 15 teams participating this weekend, as we started off our 21st Anniversary running of the Wild Bunch Series. Saturday was dry and sunny in places, with occasional cloud and Sunday was similar though a little warmer. We managed to complete all 4 rounds of racing on the Sunday. This weekend we were trialling a new addition to the RWYB format, where Reaction times get factored in to the averages, so basically adding the Reaction time on each run to the difference to Dial-in, and averaging over all the rounds run. The winners were:

1st Place: Bob Morgan in “B-Sting” .176
2nd Place: Keith Crampton in “Soul Town Shaker” .238
3rd Place: Tom Larman in “The Ferret” .299
4th Place: Sag Southworth in “Daddy Cool” .311

Many thanks to Bob of Springbridge Direct Ltd for posting the Prize Fund of £100, shared between 1st – 4th places.

Here are the Spot Prizes that were awarded:-

Best Reaction (on Race-day): Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II” .037
Closest to Dial-in (on Race-day): Tom Larman in “The Ferret” .001
Best Altered: Alan Loten & Steve Williams in “Paranoia”
Best Slingshot: Rob & Pete Brown in “Wrathchild”
Best Burnout: Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II”
Best Appearing Car: Andy Stones and team in the “Stoned” slingshot

Some highlights of the weekend included a good field of Wild Bunch, good weather, loads of track time, a couple of newcomers, a few fantastic individual performances with PB’s, and a great show by all the Bunch!

The full field included:

Keith Crampton in “Soul Town Shaker” (some bouncy runs, but a good performance for 2nd)
Bob Morgan in “B-Sting” (very good set of runs and solidly good reactions earned him the win)
Tom Larman in “The Ferret” (excited to be back out racing, and already in the Top 4)
Phil James in “Rampage” (first full time with Nitrous and straight away deep into the 8’s!)
Michael Kenway in “Grease Monkey” (welcome to Michael and team, commiserations on the box!)
Pete & Rob Brown in “Wrathchild” (some very mixed runs and a great PB to finish with)
JJ and Skippy in “Cheap Thrills” (welcome to Ratchet Strap racing team, enjoying their runs)
Darryl Howells in “Chemical Reaction” (lots of testing and some improvements)
Alan Loten in “Paranoia” (some better runs over the weekend, and the quad now reliable)
Dave ‘Sag’ Southworth in “Daddy Cool” (fantastic PB’s with a string of 8’s and a Top 4 place!)
Steve Field in “Black Pig Too” (great to see the car running better, going in the right direction!)
Andy Stones in “Stoned” (great tow vehicle and new team wear, all very smart)
Jim Tanner in “Shindigger” (battery troubles on Saturday, but made the show, though later problems)
Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II” (great consistent performance with the ‘spare engine’)
Matt Fuller in “Oblivion” (mixed runs, but a great return to the mid 10’s in the end!)

Commiserations to Dave Rowlands who was going to run with the “Destiny’s Angel” altered but suffered head damage on the initial warmup – best of luck for the repairs and hope he’s back soon!

A big welcome to 2 new teams – Michael Kenway with his altered and the whole Ratchet Strap team with their big yellow slingshot. Both enjoyed the weekend, though both suffered some breakages. Hope they will both be back out soon and enjoying their racing with the Bunch!

PB’s
Phil James in “Rampage” 8.613 at 151.86 mph
Michael Kenway 12.448 at 119.53 mph
Rob Brown 10.783
JJ in "Cheap Thrills" 13.221 at 108.42 mph
Sag Southworth 8.844 at 149.34 mph

It was a great relaxed and fun event, where we were lucky to get all 4 rounds completed! Many thanks to all at Shakey for their hard work once again, well done to all! Well done to all the Wild Bunch teams on some fantastic performances! We look forward to another big field next event at our ‘Spring Nationals’ at the Gary’s Picnic Yanks weekend on 28th – 30th May. Hope to see you there!

Full report posted as soon as we can!
