Hi everybody

Here is the brief news from our ‘Fall Nationals’ at the National Finals at Santa Pod, last weekend, 24th & 25th September.

The Wild Bunch had a field of 5 teams competing at the event:

• Keith Crampton in “Soul Town Shaker”
• Phil James in “Rampage”
• Terry Clifford in “Soul Town Shaker”
• Alan Loten in “Paranoia”
• Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II”

Saturday’s weather started dry though cool and cloudy. There were some sunny spells, and we got all 3 qualifiers in. All 5 teams safely qualified. Sunday dawned wet and the track crew worked to dry the track and got it open just one hour late. It then stayed dry apart from a tiny stoppage for a few spots of rain. It was sunny though windy in the afternoon, and cooled off later in the day. We got all 3 rounds of eliminations completed by 5pm!

Here are the Top 3, as only they were able to take part in eliminations:

1st Place: Keith Crampton in “Soul Town Shaker”
2nd Place: Phil James in “Rampage”
3rd Place: Alan Loten in “Paranoia”

Here are the Spot Prizes that were awarded:-

#1 Qualifier: Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II” .066 off
Best Reaction (Race-day): Phil James in “Rampage” .142
Closest to Dial-in (Race-day): Alan Loten in “Paranoia” .062 off
Best Appearing Car: Alan Loten in “Paranoia”
Best Appearing Team: Keith Crampton, “Soul Town Shaker” and the “Marras”

Highlights of the weekend included a full day of qualifying and all eliminations completed, a great group of people and cars, and a real close race in the first round, with Phil narrowly taking the win over Alan by just .008. Their Dial-ins were one hundredth apart, differences to Dial-in one hundredth apart and Reaction times two hundredths apart!! Great race to watch!

Big commiserations to Bob Hawkins who comprehensively damaged his engine on his 3rd qualifier on Saturday, after having run a stellar 6.876 on a 6.81 Dial-in in his first qualifier to go #1. Huge shame for Bob and the team after all their hard work. But no doubt Bob will bounce back and be running quicker and stronger next season! Best of luck Bob! Commiserations also to Terry Clifford who could not make the first round due to battery problems, such a shame! More commiserations to Phil James who sprang a leak after his 1st round pass and could not take any further part in eliminations. This left Keith on a solo run in the Final, and in fact he took the event win with 3 Bye runs! Congrats Keith!

With the results from the weekend turning the points around, Keith Crampton has won the 2016 Wild Bunch Series for the second time in a row, and by just one point!! Many congratulations to him and all of his crews on this well-deserved achievement!! Consistently in the Top 4 at every round this year.

Big Congratulations to Alan Loten who has won the 'Spirit of Nostalgia Challenge' Series by a country mile with an event in hand. Well done Alan on your first big Series win of the modern era!! Very well deserved!!

And Congratulations to Phil James and team who have won the 2016 ‘Springbridge MSA Challenge’!! For the second time in a row!! Well done to him and the team!

Huge thanks to all the Santa Pod marshals and officials, track and safety crews and organisers for all their hard work as always!! It was a great event to finish off the season with fantastic weather!

Full report posted as soon as we can. Plus the news on all the final points standings!
