Hi everybody

Here is the brief news from our ‘Fall Nationals’ at the National Finals at Santa Pod, last weekend, 23rd & 24th September.

The Wild Bunch had a good field of 7 teams competing at the event:

• Keith Crampton in “Soul Town Shaker”
• Bob Morgan in “B-Sting”
• Terry Clifford in “Soul Town Shaker”
• Phil James in “Rampage”
• Darryl Howells in “Chemical Reaction”
• Mick Gleadow in “Jurassic Parts II”
• Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II”

Saturday’s weather started with a little drizzle which soon cleared and the weather improved throughout the day, and we got all 3 qualifiers in. All 7 teams safely qualified. Sunday dawned dry and fine, and the weather was just about perfect for racing, warming up in the afternoon. We got all 3 rounds of eliminations in so it was a great way to finish off the season with some close racing.

Here are the Top 4:

1st Place: Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II”
2nd Place: Mick Gleadow in “Jurassic Parts II”
3rd Place: Bob Morgan in “B-Sting”
4th Place: Phil James in “Rampage”

Here are the Spot Prizes that were awarded:-

#1 Qualifier: Bob Morgan in “B-Sting” .015 off
Best Reaction (Race-day): Phil James in “Rampage” .093
Closest to Dial-in (Race-day): Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II” .007 off! (6.667 on a 6.66!!)
Best Appearing Car & Team: Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II”

PB: Mick Gleadow in “Jurassic Parts II” 9.773

Plus Bob Hawkins reset the Wild Bunch ET Record in "Time Traveller II" with an excellent 6.630 in qualifying!! (He also recorded 203.35 mph on this run, his first ever 6/200 at the Pod, and second highest speed for him).

Highlights of the weekend included a full day of qualifying (notably Terry was so close he only broke out by five TEN Thousandths!) and all eliminations completed, a great group of people and cars, and real close and exciting racing with the Springbridge MSA Challenge Series decided by the Final!

Team B-Sting had already won the 2017 Wild Bunch Series with one event in hand. Many congratulations to the whole team on this achievement, secured with 4 wins and a 3rd and 4th place. Also a huge well done to Jim Tanner in the “Shindigger” in 2nd place, a great performance with four Top 4 placings! Rob & Pete Brown have remained in 3rd place for the second year in a row with their “Wrathchild” slingshot, well done on another great season for them!! And very pleased to welcome the Turtons to the Top 4, as Philippa and Mark have finished 4th, in their first full season together in the Wild Bunch with their “Bitchcraft”/”Legion” slingshot coupe!! Fantastic all round!

Big Congratulations to Team B-Sting who already won the Spirit of Nostalgia Challenge Series by a country mile with more than an event in hand! Congratulations to Jim Tanner who has finished in 2nd place, a great season for him and Eddie and the team! Phil James moved up to finish in 3rd place and Darryl Howells finished in 4th. Well done to all!

And Many Congratulations to Bob Hawkins and team who have won the 2017 ‘Springbridge MSA Challenge’!! For the first time after several years of trying! Great to see Bob winning his own Series!! Big congrats Bob!! Well done after all your hard work!! And very well done to Phil James who gave it a valiant effort as Runner-up!

Huge thanks to all the Santa Pod marshals and officials, track and safety crews and organisers for all their hard work as always!! It was a fantastic event to finish off the season with great weather!!
