Hi folks

Here is the news from the ‘Springspeed Nationals’ event last weekend 30th April – 2nd May. This event was ‘Spirit of Nostalgia Challenge’ Series Round 1 and the 10th Annual ‘Springbridge Motorsport UK Challenge’ Round 1, as well as the 1st round of the third ever Santa Pod Racers Club Championship for the Wild Bunch!  Many thanks to Bob Hawkins of Springbridge Direct Ltd for being the Springbridge Series sponsor and the SPRC Championship Wild Bunch Class Title sponsor! Much appreciated!  There was a real small but excellent field of 3 cars entered at the event.

The weather forecast had been fairly good for the whole weekend. Saturday proved to be as expected with a dry day with periods of warmth. All 4 scheduled qualifiers took place, and all 3 teams were safely qualified that day. On Sunday, though the racing started on time, there was a long rain delay, which was a real shame as the dampness did not amount to much, as it just came and went! Racing started again around 1:30pm, but there were a few holdups, so in all, only 1 more full cycle of qualifying took place. Monday’s weather was a great improvement, and dry throughout, though a bit cool. The Bunch had been scheduled for another qualifier, but this was cancelled due to the knock on effect of Saturday’s delays. So the trio had a long wait for the Semi-finals just after 2pm! But they were first class out for the Finals!!

The full field of cars was:

Pete Brown in “Rebel” – great to see Pete picking up where the team left off last year, and running well with an .047 off Dial, straight off the trailer! He had some strong mid 8-second passes throughout the weekend, including a best of 8.587 / 153.62.  Only an out of shape pass in the Final kept him from running another mid 8! Look forward to seeing both the boys with both cars at the Nostalgias!!

Keith Crampton in “Soultown Shaker” – brill to see Keith back out after only a handful of runs last year. He says huge thanks to Steve Cassisi for a great engine build!! The new Chevy saw him running a couple of PB’s in qualifying! Unfortunately, he lost drive in his Semi-final race against Bob Hawkins, and had to coast. Sure he will be able to fix the problem before long! Best of luck Keith! Welcome back!!

Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II” – fantastic to see Bob back testing his new combination which sounded awesome as always on Nitro!!! He had a few issues this weekend, but by the end of Monday had cured some of these and is now well on the way in the right direction! He was over the moon to win the event with a slowing 7.401 / 140.71 pass in the Final!!  Many Congratulations Bob! A great birthday present!! So great to see him back in the hunt for those 6’s at over 200mph! Best of luck Bob!

Results:

1st Place: Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II”

2nd Place: Pete Brown in “Rebel”

3rd Place: Keith Crampton in “Soultown Shaker”

Here are the Spot Prizes that were awarded:-

#1 Qualifier: Pete Brown in “Rebel” .047 off

Best Reaction: Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II” .070

The only PB’s were a couple by Keith Crampton in “Soultown Shaker” with a best of 9.757 / 136.50.

Although it was a real small field for the Bunch, they all put on the usual great show and did themselves proud! Hoping for a bigger field at the next MSUK event!! Huge thanks to all the track and safety crews, marshals and officials for working so hard as always!  It was great to be back at Santa Pod!!

Looking forward to our next event on 3rd – 5th June, the 27th “Nostalgia Nationals” in the 50th Anniversary year for the NSRA!! Should be a great field for that event, so hope the weather’s good!!

All the best

Claire
