Hi everyone!

Here are the brief results from the brilliant Dragstalgia event at Santa Pod last weekend, 11th & 12th July, with a full writeup and results to follow as soon as we can!

The Wild Bunch had an awesome field of 38 teams including 2 guest teams from Germany and Switzerland participating at the event!!! Our biggest ever field, topping the 33 at last year’s event!!

The weather was fantastic on Friday (where some teams took advantage of the RWYB session to test). Saturday was equally brilliant, sunny and warm, and we got two practice rounds and Round 1 of competition. Sunday was slightly better than expected, and though it was wet first thing the track crew worked hard and there were about 3 hours of racing, including our 2nd round, before the huge deluge put a stop to the event. The sun did come out for our prize presentation though!

Here are the Top 4 at the event. Congratulations to all:

1st Place: Dick Sharp in “Dorset Horn” (brilliant win, his first for many years!!!)
2nd Place: Mo Blackburn in “Escape from Reality” (welcome again Mo!)
3rd Place: Sag Southworth in “Daddy Cool” (fantastic to see them in the Top 4 again!)
4th Place: Phil James in “Rampage” (great consistency again!)

Big thanks to Ian Blackett of ‘Blackett Photography’ who put up prize money for 1st and 2nd places, and had a special photo offer for Wild Bunch teams. Special thanks to Steven East and the whole of Team East who put up prize money for 1st and 2nd place and sponsored many of the Spot Prizes, and special thanks also to Scot Durrant of ‘Scottie’s Moving Vehicles’ who also put up prize money for 1st place. All very much appreciated!

Here are the Spot Prizes that were awarded. Congratulations to all:-

Closest to Dial-in (on Race-day): Andrew Murphy in “B-Sting” .002 off
Best Reaction (on Race-day): Andrew Murphy in “B-Sting” .027
Quickest E.T. of the event: Steph Milam 6.333 in “She Devil”
Best Burnout: Mark Coulsell in “Ballbreaker”
Best Appearing Car: Dan Sharp & Scott Chilcott with “Little Big Horn”
Best Wheelie: Dick Sharp in “Dorset Horn”
Best Appearing Team: Steve and Lesley Field and the “Black Pig Too” team
Best Backup Girls: Annina & Lisa from the Swiss Team ‘The Ballistics’ with the “Linac #2” injected slingshot
Trophy for “Furthest Travelled”: Christian Frei and The Ballistics with the “Linac #2” injected slingshot
(A big welcome to our guests who came all the way 1000 miles from Switzerland to race!!)
Spirit of Nostalgia: Alan Loten and Steve Williams with “Paranoia”

And a special Congratulations to the Commentator’s choice for “Best Backup Girl” of the whole event, our very own Nicole Rumble from Team “Tiki Munki”!

And the PB’s were:

Martin White in “Perfect Pete” 10.296/113.76
Maurice Takoor in “Spirit” 13.776/95.64 (please correct me if you went quicker or faster during your testing )
Harry Preston in "Valkyrie" 136.44mph
Alan Loten in “Paranoia” 9.280
Mike Couch in “Chequered Past” 9.247
Steve Field in “Black Pig Too” 152.07mph
Andy Stones in the little yellow slingshot 10.785
Graham Rawlings in “Rawspeed” 11.933
Steven East in “Ellie’s in Trouble Now” 9.557
Dan Sharp in “Little Big Horn” 9.383 (a full second quicker than last year's PB at this same event!)
Lesley Prior in the “S&K Racing” dragster 8.849/149.63 (her first drive in 24 years since the funny car; and first R.E.D. drive I believe!)
Steph Milam 6.333 / 234.97 in “She Devil” (as an altered!!) (only 4 mph shy of her fastest ever in funny car guise!)
Christian Frei in “Linac #2” slingshot from Switzerland!! 8.020

[Please e-mail me if your PB is not included here, as I didn’t receive the full updated printout from the 2nd run on Saturday]

Highlights of the weekend included: the Induction into the British Drag Racing Hall of Fame of Ken ‘Mr Flathead’ Cooper, currently crew chief of the “Back from the Past” slingshot driven by son Bradley (huge Congratulations sir on this very well-deserved accolade!), the return to the dragstrip of Lesley Prior, the huge, fantastic and varied field of Wild Bunch cars and teams, including so many regulars, returning members, new members and guests (welcome and willkommen!!), 2 full rounds of racing overall, the Cacklefest (all participants were from the Wild Bunch apart from 3!), also including push starts from 2 Wild Bunch cars and flame burnouts from 2 Wild Bunch cars, an absolutely incredible show from all of the Wild Bunch, including loads of backup girls, great team wear, a push car, pit displays, great performances and matchups! Everyone really did themselves so much more than proud again!! Well done all! Seeing all the cars and teams in the fireup road was really spectacular!!!!! There were so many individual and group highlights – I will update on them all more when I do the full writeup!

Unfortunately, commiserations are due to Bob Hawkins who had lifter and collet damage, Wayne Colliver who had fuel pump drive problems, Bradley and Ken Cooper who had a cracked block, Mick Hillier with a converter problem, Darryl Howells who has as yet undiagnosed engine woes, Dan Sharp who broke a body mount, the Joneses who had torque converter problems, the S&K team who had possible nitrous/electrical problems, Steph & Dave Milam who had piston and all-8-liners damage. Hope all can repair the damage soon and be back out racing! Fair play to the Ballbreaker crew who fixed flexplate problems and the Tiki Munki team and friends who fixed brake damage late Friday night and both came back out racing! And to the Nelson crew who sorted problems and made it for a great flame burnout! As did Bob and Team, working hard and sorting problems and performing another spectacular flamer!!

Everyone put on such a fabulous show and brilliant to see so many gorgeous backup girls this year! Well done to all!
