24th August 2022

Hi everybody. Here are the brief results from the ‘Green Light Nationals’ at Santa Pod last weekend, 20th & 21st August.

The Wild Bunch had a good field of 7 cars participating in the event. We had 4 qualifying runs scheduled for Saturday, and managed to get them all in, even though there had been delays during the day! All 7 teams safely qualified.  On Sunday, our first round, the Quarter Finals, took place at around 12 noon, and it was a fantastic round with great close racing!!  Due to various delays, the Semis did not take place until about 5 and a half hours later! It was another cracking pair of races!  The Final was around 7pm and also a brilliant race!

The Top 4 winners were:

1st Place: Allan Schofield in ‘Rough Diamond’  (fantastic result on his first MSUK event with the Bunch!)

2nd Place: Pete Brown in ‘Rebel’ (brilliant racing throughout, and soooo close!!)

3rd Place: Phil James in ‘Rampage’ (closest to Dial of Semi-final Runners up .132 vs .296)

4th Place: Keith Crampton in ‘Soultown Shaker’ (great performance firmly in the mid 9’s again!)

The Spot Prizes were:

#1 Qualifier: Phil James in ‘Rampage’ .0010 off !!

Best Reaction (elims): Allan Schofield in ‘Rough Diamond’ .022 (also had the second and third best RT at .025 and .026!)

Closest to Dial-in (eliminations): Pete Brown in ‘Rebel’ .0014 off !!

The full line-up was:

·        Pete Brown in ‘Rebel’ (Pete had a real close run in qualifying, just .001 breakout! He qualified in 7th place overall; Pete had an excellent race against Bob in the first round, winning with just .001 off his Dial! He narrowly lost out in the Final with only a .007 greater breakout than Allan! Excellent racing Pete!)

·           Phil James in ‘Rampage’ (very ably crewed by wife Anna and friend Matt; He qualified #1 off the trailer and then improved that #1 spot to within a thousandth! Phil had a great Bye in the first round, just under a hundredth under Dial)

·           Steve Field in ‘Black Pig Too’ (Steve qualified well in a great 3rd place overall, running strong 8's throughout with great smoky burnouts!)

·           Keith Crampton in ‘Soultown Shaker’ (more great runs from Keith well and truly in the 9's; he qualified in 5th overall; he had a cracking race in the first round, being just .007 off Dial with a fab 9.567 on a 9.56!!!)

·           Andy Clifford in ‘Snake Eyes’ (great to see Andy back after Dad Terry had subbed admirably at the last event; Andy qualified well in a great 2nd place overall, good performance!)

·           Bob Hawkins in ‘Time Traveller II’ (fantastic to see Bob firmly back in the mid 6's!! He qualified 4th overall; Bob had a stunning run in the first round of 6.685 / 190.60, only breaking out by .014! Brilliant race against Pete who was spot on!)

·        Allan Schofield in ‘Rough Diamond’ was in his first MSUK event with the Wild Bunch. Throughout the weekend he overcame some issues including gear changing; he qualified 6th; great reactions throughout eliminations with the slowest being a mere .026!!!; he had a hole shot win in the first round, then just .015 off Dial in the Semi, and a fantastic maiden Wild Bunch win with just .007 lesser breakout than the hard charging Pete!)

The PB’s this weekend were:

Allan Schofield in ‘Rough Diamond’  8.389

Please let me know if I missed any!

Highlights of the weekend were a bigger field for this MSUK event, a fantastic set of eliminations and a great show by the Wild Bunch!!

Massive thanks again to everyone at Santa Pod for all their hard work as always! Well done to all the Wild Bunch teams! You all did yourselves proud once again!

We hope to see an even bigger field for the MSUK final event on 24th & 25th September!! This is just one week after the super Hot Rod Drags which will see the Final of the Roy Wilding Nostalgia Race Cars Series and the penultimate round of the Wild Bunch Series and Spirit of Nostalgia Series!! Can’t wait!

All the best

Claire
