Hi everybody!
Here are the results from the ‘Summer Nationals’ at Santa Pod last weekend, 4th - 6th July. This was Spirit of Nostalgia Challenge Round 3, Springbridge MSUK Challenge Round 1 and the 1st round of the SPRC Championship for Wild Bunch.
Qualifying
The weather for the weekend started off nice on the Friday. Only Rob Brown in “Rebel” was able to participate in the first 2 qualifying rounds. Saturday’s weather was okay, and both Philippa in “Bitchcraft” and Phil in “Rampage” joined in with Rob for the 3rd and 4th qualifying rounds and all 3 safely qualified.
WB 2 Saw Rob Brown taking another turn in the “Rebel” slingshot, after his great win at the previous weekend’s ‘Dragstalgia’ event. Rob began with a Dial-in of 8.43. His first run was a banker with an 8.6112 at 153.65 mph. He increased the Dial for the second round and ran 8.4213 at 155.33 mph and was automatically #1 Qualifier at that point. This proved to be ‘Quickest E.T.’ of the Bunch for the weekend. For the next qualifier Saturday he reduced his Dial-in to 8.41 and ran an improved 8.4455 at 155.22 mph. For the final qualifier, he posted an 8.44 Dial and ran 8.4958 at 154.67 mph. He finished as 2nd qualifier overall.
WB 12 Philippa Turton started the weekend with a minor gearbox issue but Mark and team managed to get this fixed so that she was able to join in with the 3rd qualifier on Saturday morning. She dialled in at 10.65 for starters and ran a 10.9500 at 120.12 mph. She raised the Dial-in to a sensible 10.90, but ran quite a way under with a great 10.6973 at 123.19 mph. She qualified in 3rd place overall.
WB 45 Phil James was back out running his fantastic “Rampage” funny car after having a puncture from the previous weekend fixed in his slick. His first Dial-in on Saturday was 9.47, and he went straight to #1 spot off the trailer with a 9.4830 at 138.63 mph!! In the last qualifier, he kept the Dial and ran a good 9.5705 at 136.87 mph. He remained #1 Qualifier.
Race Day Sunday There were hopes of some running this day, as the weather started off dry at first. But a big shower eventually caught up with the track, and though there were several breaks in the weather and the track crew worked hard, the weather got the better of the day and the officials had to call the event with more rain on the way! What a shame as we are sure it would have been good close racing!
No eliminations took place for the Bunch so no Top 4 trophies were awarded. The Spot Prizes were:
#1 Qualifier: Phil James in ‘Rampage’ .0130 off
Huge thanks to all the marshals and officials and track crew for their hard work over the weekend, as always, especially with the attempted clear up!
Hoping these and several more teams will join back in for our next MSUK round at the ‘Green Light Nationals’ on August 16th & 17th!
We are now looking forward to the 3rd Wild Bunch round and 4th Spirit of Nostalgia Challenge Series at the Wild Bunch ‘Summer Nationals’ at the Mopar Euronationals on 18th - 20th July. It will be a really good chilled out event with lots of track time and fun! We’re hoping for good weather at that one!!
See you then!
All the best
Claire :-)
